Winter vacation has always been one of my favorite times of year to try new craft projects. The slow, winter days are perfect for staying indoors, turning on some cheerful music, and crafting for hours at a time.

My latest project is perfect for a winter day spent indoors, and it’s a great project to share with family members who may be home for the holidays. I found inspiration from bloggers Lemonista and The Naked Baker who shared their simple instructions and tips for these cute DIY snow globes.

What You’ll Need:

Clear jar* with a tight fitting lid

Water

Glycerin (or mineral or baby oil)

A decorative trinket that fits inside the jar (not made of paper or fabric)

Decorative confetti for “snow”: glitter, small beads, fake snow, clean crushed egg shells

E-6000

Amazing QuickHOLD Craft glue

*Tip: Getting the label off the bottle without leaving behind the sticky stuff is tough. Try filling the bottle with hot water, let it sit for a minute or two, and then peel the label off. Works like a charm!

Easy Instructions:

Use Amazing QuickHOLD glue to adhere your trinket to the lid of the jar. Apply the glue to the trinket and let sit for about a minute to get tacky; and then attach the trinket. Since I used a Mason jar and the lid comes in two pieces, I applied E-6000 to the rim of the part that screws on and glued the pieces together.

While waiting for that to dry, fill your jar up about a 1/2-inch from the top with water.

Pour the entire bottle of glycerin (2 tbsp. of whichever oil) into the water and stir until mixed. Add decorative confetti of your choice (glitter, small beads, fake snow etc).

Apply E-6000 to the ridges and the mouth of the jar.

Move your jar and trinketed lid to the sink. When you place the lid on your jar, it’s normal for it to overflow a little bit. This will not weaken the glue or it’s ability to seal the jar. Close the jar tightly.

Voila! You have an adorable, homemade snow globe.

This holiday season, I wanted to give unique homemade gifts. I set out in search of inspiration for a fun, easy, and inexpensive gift instead of settling with the usual cookie platter.

I came across this eco-friendly and simple project for “Santa Bottles” using recycled Frappucino bottles. By the time you’re done with the bottles, they’ll not only be great gifts, but they’ll be cute and decorative candy holders too.

What you’ll need:

· Empty, washed, and label-free Frappucino bottle*

· Red felt, cut into a 2.5” x 2.5” square and a 1.5” in diameter circle

· White felt, cut into a 0.5 x 2.5” rectangle

· Black felt, cut into a 0.5 x 2.5” rectangle

· Red ribbon, about 15” long

· Embellishment: tiny belt buckle, little bow, or a small jingle bell

· Amazing GOOP Craft Glue

*Tip: Getting the label off the bottle without leaving behind sticky stuff is tough. To remove it, fill the bottle with hot water, let it sit for a minute or two, and then peel the label off. Worked like a charm!

Easy Instructions:

Cut pieces of felt to size (as indicated above).

Glue the white felt vertically down the center of the red felt square using Amazing GOOP Craft.

Glue the black felt piece horizontally across the red felt square (perpendicular to the white felt piece.)

Allow the pieces to dry until semi-tacky.

Apply Amazing GOOP Craft to the bottle by applying small beads of glue in an ‘X’ pattern across the front. (Make sure the inked numbers on the neck are on the back of the bottle before gluing.)

Allow glue to become tacky (about 10-15 seconds).

Adhere the felt square onto the front of the bottle. Wrap two rubber bands across the felt square to form a tight hold until it is firmly in place (about 20 minutes).

While waiting, glue the red felt circle to the top of the bottle lid, covering the logo.

Add embellishment. Place a large bead of glue at the intersection of the black and white felt and apply a belt buckle, bow or jingle bell.

Tie a bow around the neck of the bottle with ribbon of your choice. Fill with candy and enjoy!

We’d like to thank Stacie Grissom for this fantastic guest project using Shoe GOO. You can find more projects from Stacie at Stars for Streetlights and check out her DIY Owl Purse project we recently shared here on the Eclectic blog.

I am a huge fan of vintage stores and thrift shops but when it comes to finding the perfect pair of boots, I’ve always turned to Ebay. I truly believe that the vintage boots you find online are better than the shoes you can find in the stores for the same prices. I hate to sound like an old codger, but they just don’t make things like they used to! If you want to spend $300 on a pair of nice leather boots, go for it! But if you are a gal on a budget like me, Ebay is a great alternative.

One problem with wearing vintage boots from Ebay is that the soles are not always the best. The soles of the boots I just bought started cracking after I wore them a few times. Even with this pretty substantial sole problem, I still love the shoes and I had to try and fix them on my own. You can always get your boots resoled, but I’ve found that Shoe GOO works really well to fix your soles when you need it. Not only does the Shoe GOO make your shoes less slippery, it also makes the bottoms of your shoes thicker and last longer.

What you need:
-Shoe GOO
-Shoes that need fixing
-A couple ice cubes
-A sheet or paper to cover your workspace
-A well-ventilated room

Step 1: First, make sure you’re working in a well-ventilated area and lay out your boots on a sheet or a piece of newspaper.

Step 2: Put some Shoe GOO on your soles. I just dolloped some GOO all over the soles. Pretty simple.

Step 3: Spread out the Shoe GOO with an ice cube. Spreading with an ice cube distributes the Shoe GOO evenly without sticking to anything. After you have spread the Shoe GOO, prop the boots or shoes so that the Shoe GOO does not slide with gravity. Make sure it dries where you want it to dry.

After you let it dry, your soles will look something like this!

Stacie Grissom is a Midwestern crafter who loves writing her DIY craft blog, Polaroids, sewing machines, sheep, and her three-legged Labrador, Bridget.

The holidays are upon us, and that means it’s time to pull last year’s decorations out of storage and take inventory. Somewhere between carefully wrapping ornaments and not-so-carefully putting away boxes in the garage, attic or basement, it seems that more than a few ornaments will end up damaged.

There’s no need to throw out a chipped, cracked, or damaged ornament. With the right adhesive and a little patience, you can save your heirloom ornaments and beautiful decorations in less time than it takes to shop for new ones.

How to Repair Glass Ornaments

Collect all the broken pieces.

Carefully assemble the pieces together to ensure that you aren’t missing any pieces.

Lay the pieces down in the order that you will need to replace them.

Use E-6000 to put each piece in place. Start by gluing along the edge of the largest piece of ornament.

Place the first piece in place and hold it for one minute.

Continue to replace the pieces of the ornament until all pieces are in place.

Place the repaired ornament in an empty egg crate to dry. (Make sure that no glue touches the egg crate or it will stick to the ornament.)

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

How to Repair Ceramic Ornaments

Collect all the broken pieces.
