March 2 marks the birth date of beloved children’s author, Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known by the pen name, Dr. Seuss. For more than 50 years, the works of Dr. Seuss have been an inspiration to children and adults of all ages.

To celebrate, we came up with a Cat in the Hat inspired nursery mobile to pass along the wonder of Dr. Seuss to a new generation. The mobile is easy to construct, and the brightly colored decorative elements make this a unique addition to any nursery.

What you’ll need:

• 2 embroidery hoops (approximately 16”, bigger or smaller depending on desired size of mobile)
• 6-8 shadowbox frame ornaments or wooden cutouts
• 10 yards of 3/8″ red ribbon
• 1 package assorted blue buttons
• red self adhesive rhinestones
• blue and white striped paper and bright red paper
• Cat in the Hat handmade art or printables
• Amazing EcoGlue craft adhesive
• paint, if desired
• 1 large keyring

Easy Instructions:
(Frame)

1. Remove the outer hoop (with the screws) from the embroidery hoops. Use only the inner hoop, without the screws
2. Paint the hoop blue, if desired
3. Cut a piece of ribbon to approximately 18″
4. Attach ribbon to the embroidery hoop, run the ribbon up to the keyring, and back down to the opposite side of the hoop
5. Cut a piece of ribbon to approximately 9″
6. Attach to embroidery hoop, run the ribbon up to the keyring and tie together with the first ribbon. Space the ribbon apart to balance the hoop and create the mobile hanger

(Decorative Elements)

1. Prepare shadowbox frame ornaments or wooden cutouts by drilling a hole in the top, large enough to thread the ribbon
2. Using non toxic Amazing EcoGlue craft adhesive, decorate the shadowboxes or cutouts by gluing striped paper to the front and back
3. Center a small cutout of Cat in the Hat illustrations in each shadowbox
4. Decorate with buttons, rhinestones or other embellishments
5. Allow glue to dry
6. Thread ribbon through each item at desired length and tie to embroidery hoop
7. Evenly space each item around the hoop

Note: Child safety is of utmost importance in your mobile project. Make sure your little one cannot reach the mobile so s/he can’t become entangled or pull anything off. This mobile should be used for decorative purposes only.
