We’d like to thank Stacie Grissom for this fantastic guest project using Shoe GOO. You can find more projects from Stacie at Stars for Streetlights and check out her DIY Owl Purse project we recently shared here on the Eclectic blog.

I am a huge fan of vintage stores and thrift shops but when it comes to finding the perfect pair of boots, I’ve always turned to Ebay. I truly believe that the vintage boots you find online are better than the shoes you can find in the stores for the same prices. I hate to sound like an old codger, but they just don’t make things like they used to! If you want to spend $300 on a pair of nice leather boots, go for it! But if you are a gal on a budget like me, Ebay is a great alternative.

One problem with wearing vintage boots from Ebay is that the soles are not always the best. The soles of the boots I just bought started cracking after I wore them a few times. Even with this pretty substantial sole problem, I still love the shoes and I had to try and fix them on my own. You can always get your boots resoled, but I’ve found that Shoe GOO works really well to fix your soles when you need it. Not only does the Shoe GOO make your shoes less slippery, it also makes the bottoms of your shoes thicker and last longer.

What you need:
-Shoe GOO
-Shoes that need fixing
-A couple ice cubes
-A sheet or paper to cover your workspace
-A well-ventilated room

Step 1: First, make sure you’re working in a well-ventilated area and lay out your boots on a sheet or a piece of newspaper.

Step 2: Put some Shoe GOO on your soles. I just dolloped some GOO all over the soles. Pretty simple.

Step 3: Spread out the Shoe GOO with an ice cube. Spreading with an ice cube distributes the Shoe GOO evenly without sticking to anything. After you have spread the Shoe GOO, prop the boots or shoes so that the Shoe GOO does not slide with gravity. Make sure it dries where you want it to dry.

After you let it dry, your soles will look something like this!

The holidays are upon us, and that means it’s time to pull last year’s decorations out of storage and take inventory. Somewhere between carefully wrapping ornaments and not-so-carefully putting away boxes in the garage, attic or basement, it seems that more than a few ornaments will end up damaged.

There’s no need to throw out a chipped, cracked, or damaged ornament. With the right adhesive and a little patience, you can save your heirloom ornaments and beautiful decorations in less time than it takes to shop for new ones.

How to Repair Glass Ornaments

Collect all the broken pieces.

Carefully assemble the pieces together to ensure that you aren’t missing any pieces.

Lay the pieces down in the order that you will need to replace them.

Use E-6000 to put each piece in place. Start by gluing along the edge of the largest piece of ornament.

Place the first piece in place and hold it for one minute.

Continue to replace the pieces of the ornament until all pieces are in place.

Place the repaired ornament in an empty egg crate to dry. (Make sure that no glue touches the egg crate or it will stick to the ornament.)

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

How to Repair Ceramic Ornaments

Collect all the broken pieces.

Sand both edges of the broken ornament lightly with sandpaper. Wipe each piece clean with a cloth to remove all dust.

Coat the edge of one of the broken pieces of the figurine with Amazing QuickHOLD. (A few beads are plenty for small ornaments.)

Allow Amazing QuickHOLD to harden for five minutes before bringing surfaces together.

Press the pieces of your ceramic ornament together and hold it in place for a few minutes.

Apply masking tape across the glued portion of the ornament to serve as a clamp.

Allow to dry for six hours.

There’s no better way to revamp an antique leather handbag and make it your own than by painting and embellishing it with your favorite colors and little trinkets.

Designers Melissa Neufeld and Chris Janze shared their amazingly simple how-to idea on the Martha Stewart show. We were excited to see E-6000 used in the project to attach rhinestones to the bag. Check out the instructions below and click through to watch the full tutorial on Martha Stewart.

What you’ll need:

Tooled leather handbag

Lumiere metallic acrylic paint by Jacquard

Water-based varnish

Paintbrushes

Embellishments: buttons, costume jewelry, rhinestones, beads, chain, etc.

Devcon Flow-Mix 60-second epoxy

E-6000 glue

Easy instructions:

Choose a palette of colors for the handbag – find inspiration from magazines, fabric prints, or seasonal colors.

Following the lines of the tooled detailing of the leather design, paint the handbag with desired colors. For best results, paint the background first, let dry, and then fill in details with alternate color(s).
Note: some colors may need two to three coats of paint.

Once paint is dry, seal the entire bag with two coats of water-based varnish.

Now for the fun part—decorate the bag with embellishments of your choice. For larger and/or heavier embellishments, use the 60-second epoxy; for smaller embellishments, use the E-6000 glue. If desired, embellish the purse edges with rhinestone chains or even replace the bag handle with a new metal chain or bead strap.

Once done decorating, allow the bag to sit undisturbed while the glue sets (24-72 hours prior to use).

For complete photos, videos, and instructions, visit Martha Stewart.
